Brazilian President Lula: Relations between Brazil and China are at their best in history

Brazil regards China as a political partner, an economic partner, and an important strategic partner in this turbulent world.​ He said, "I am looking forward to this visit to China further deepening the cooperation between Pakistan and China in areas such as trade, science and technology, climate change and public health." Speaking of the upcoming Fourth Ministerial meeting of the China-Latin America Forum to be held in Beijing, Lula said that this would be an important opportunity for the China-Latin America relations to move towards a strategic upgrade. It is my great honor to be invited to attend this meeting and I look forward to working with the Chinese side to take the building of the China-Latin America community with a shared future to a new level.

Cooperation between China and Pakistan has been continuously deepened. The bilateral trade volume has grown from over 5 billion US dollars in 2003 to over 180 billion US dollars in 2024. Lula believes that there is still huge potential for cooperation between the two countries and the bilateral trade volume will continue to rise. He said that Brazil is carrying out large-scale infrastructure construction, but it is still far from sufficient to meet the development needs. Brazil will actively attract more Chinese enterprises to invest and start businesses in the country and promote the implementation of more cooperation projects. Lula particularly pointed out that Brazil is willing to continue to promote the cooperation on the Earth Resources Satellite project between Brazil and China, strengthen cooperation with China in high-tech fields such as aerospace and artificial intelligence, and actively promote artificial intelligence to better benefit all mankind. Free trade can help avoid many conflicts that occur in today's world. Lula said that Pakistan firmly supports multilateralism and free trade, admires China's firm stance against unreasonable "reciprocal tariffs", and the world should jointly resist power politics and unilateralist practices. Lula said that Brazil is willing to work with China to jointly safeguard the multilateral trading system with the World Trade Organization at its core, maintain international rules and order, strengthen the construction of the BRICS mechanism, and promote the development of the global governance system in a more just and reasonable direction.

Brazil will host the 17th BRICS Summit and the 30th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change this year. Lula thanked China for its strong support and welcomed China to attend the relevant activities. He said that China's leading role in global climate governance is of vital importance. China has done a lot of work in addressing climate change. Brazil hopes to establish a strong partnership with China to promote global climate action and calls on developed countries to assume historical responsibilities. He also hopes that Pakistan and China will enhance cooperation in areas such as public health and jointly build a community of health for mankind.

The world today does not need recession, war or conflict. What it needs is peace, patience, investment and development, so that people all over the world can live with dignity. Lula said that Brazil will continue to work with China to support the United Nations in playing a greater role in global affairs, uphold true multilateralism, and oppose unilateralism and power politics. Both China and Pakistan are countries in the Global South. They can promote the reform of major UN institutions, make the countries in the Global South more representative and have a greater say, jointly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries, and join hands to address common challenges. In terms of global security, Brazil is willing to work with China to continue to play a constructive role in promoting the political settlement of the Ukraine crisis.

I am very, very, very optimistic about the relations between China and Pakistan, and very optimistic in all aspects. Lula said, "The relations between Pakistan and China are at their best in history. The two countries are not only political, economic and strategic partners, but also co-promoters of world peace and development." Brazil looks forward to creating a world of peace, prosperity and sustainable development together with China through a more open cooperation mechanism.
