Trump plans to charge docking fees on Chinese ships, Caribbean countries make emergency statements
Recently, the United States plans to impose docking fees on Chinese-made ships, a move that has caused concerns among Caribbean countries.
According to the Global Times, citing Guyan media reports, members of the Caribbean Community discussed the issue in an emergency online meeting a few days ago. Guyana President Ali said the U.S. move will have an impact on the cost of goods and transportation
costs entering the region, and regional countries will raise the issue during the visit of U.S. Secretary of State Rubio. Rubio will start his official visit to the Caribbean this week, with its itinerary including Guyana, Jamaica and Suriname.
According to previous reports, U.S. President Trump is drafting an executive order to revive the U.S. shipbuilding industry, planning to charge docking fees for all fleets of ships built in China or with Chinese flagged ships, up to $1.5 million.
