Urgent! 72 sailings have been cancelled! involving Shanghai/Ningbo/Yantian/Shekou

2022-04-21

It is reported that weekly voyage tracking data released by Drury shows that 72 of the 725 scheduled voyages were cancelled between week 16 and week 20 on the major trans-Pacific, trans-Atlantic, Asia-North Europe and Asia-Mediterranean routes. 58% of these blank sailings will occur on the trans-Pacific eastbound trade routes, mainly to the US West.

In the five weeks between week 16 and week 20, the TEH Alliance has announced the cancellation of 25 scheduled voyages, followed by the 2M Alliance and the Ocean Alliance with 17 and 12 scheduled voyages respectively.

Congestion at high throughput ports has once again increased, particularly in the USA, where imports have been shifted from the US West to the US East. Many shippers are now focusing on Gulf routes and moving cargo to the Port of Houston. With port productivity levels constantly changing, supply chain planning for shippers becomes more challenging in such a period of market uncertainty.

In addition, the latest Drewry Composite World Container Index fell 1.2% to US$7,945.31 per FEU for the period, but is still 62% higher than the same period last year.

The Drewry Freight Index shows that Shanghai-Rotterdam rates are down 2% to US$10,577/FEU; Shanghai-Los Angeles and Shanghai-New York rates are little changed from the previous two weeks at US$8,782/FEU and US$11,353/FEU respectively. drewry expects spot rates to remain stable in the coming weeks.
